New Canaan YMCA Cayuga day November 2009
The YMCA of New Canaan, CT had over 25 people come for a full tour of Akindale's Rescue, Breeding, and Racing facilities. Thank you so much for your donation!
2nd Annual Fall Family Fun Day October 2009
2nd ANNUAL FALL FAMILY FUN DAY: Saturday, October 10th - Our Fall Family Fun Day was a success for the second year in a row. With over 150 adults and many more kids, fun was had by all. As always, the pony rides were a great success, thank you Cooper, Penny and Misty for a job well done. New for 2009, we implemented a foster program: for a one time fee of $25 ATBR supporters could foster a horse and were sent home with a certificate and a picture of their equine friend. The kids loved it and it was a great way to get them involved. The best news is that, thanks to all who attended, we raised close to $3000 to help maintain our ever-growing family of horses. Thank you again for coming and for supporting Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Pawling ironically, is the same name as the home town of Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue. We discovered that he was named after our town and born in a neighboring town at a big breeding farm. Pawling earned money the hard way -- he ran 53 times, won 11 times, came in second 13 and third 5 times earning $70,000.He is pasture sound and will be here for life.
LuLu Lady was born in Maryland in 2001. She lost her eye in a race before we rescued her from New Holland in July of 2006. LuLu came with a note from her trainer saying what a great horse she was and sent her win picture with her to go to slaughter. We’re so grateful that we ended up with LuLu and she has been a great companion for our horses. Due to her eye injury, Lulu is classified as unadoptable. We love her and she has a home with us for life.
Gentlemen Jerry was rescued from New Holland in June of 2006. He ran 45 times in his lifetime. Jerry won 12 times, placed 6 and showed 5 times. His total earnings were $86,540. Due to his long and hard racing career Jerry can not be ridden. Although he has knees the size of grapefruits, he has never taken a bad step and lives comfortably with his 13 other paddock mates – and he is the leader.
